Are you talking about being updated in the database, or updated on the screen?

i m putting meta data html tags of an ASP.NET webform on runtime,
like for />
i do same for />
will it help the website to be searched more often from search engines.
OR
putting static value in the content attribute of the meta tag be right way

From Google Search:
Death Of A Meta Tag
Now supported by only one major crawler-based search engine -- Inktomi -- the value of adding meta keywords tags to pages seems little worth the time.

Sir,
I was trying to retrieve some data from the database , It is successfully retrieved.
The problem is , there are two terms and i don't know the difference
between them.
1.dr.Item(0) or dr.item("columnnmane")
2.dr.GetValue(dr.GetOrdinal("columnname"))
Please explain the difference , I mean in which condition i should use dr.Item("") or dr.Item(0) and In which condiion I should use
dr.GetValue(dr.GetOrdinal("columnname"))
Thanks

It is usually a best practice to reference your data by column name, so the dr.Item([ColumnName]) method is best. The reasoning behind this is that if your query changes and you add or remove columns, you won't need to modify the your code to adjust for the resulting changes in column indexes.
The GetOrdinal method returns the index of a column that can then be used to retrieve the data for the specified column. This method is often used if performance is a concern. Retrieving data by column index is faster than by nane, so if you are looping through a large number of columns, you will typically retrieve the column index by name using the GetOrdinal method and then use that index to retrieve the data.

dr.Item(0) and dr.GetValue(0) are the same.
dr.Item("columnname") and dr.GetValue(dr.GetOrdinal("columnname")) are the same.

Hi,
I have developed webshop application using asp.net 1.1. I'm using
DataGrid in one of the pages of my site. During the page load the
DataGrid will be binded by around 7500 products(rows). At the same time
i'm storing the DataSet object in the Session Variable for later
refinement. I'm using StateServer mode for storeing the session values.
But in my server the W3wp.exe is taking 90 - 100 % CPU
Utlilization. Also my pages are loading very slowly. So afterthat even
if i browse some static pages in my site, then the static pages are
also taking much time to load.
I know that session is making problem because of its size. But i
need the DataSet object for later refinement. This i have tested with
only one user. But i dont know what will happen if 1000 of users access
the site.
My Questions are:
1. So How can i store the large DataSet object in session
variable?
2. Is there anyother way to solve this problem instead of
storing it in the session expect in the database?
If anybody knows the solution please let me know.
Thanks and Regards,

Surely you don't need to store the whole thing?
You could change the code to only populate the dataset with those bits that you need for the current display and have some other dataset that stores changes, maybe...

Don't store large amounts of data in a session state variable.
Here's my take on your problem;
Refine your dataset to hold fewer items. Limit it only to that which the client machine has requested. If you save a dataset in the session variable you are in fact creating & saving in memory each time a different browser instance loads that page! Major waste of resources.
If your reasoning behind this is faster load times then rather consider cutting down on the number of items in the dataset when the page loads - noone needs to see all 7500 items at once. It may be more postbacks but it's a more usable page.
You could also look at caching[^] the data, though I still wouldn't recommend caching a dataset with 7500 rows.
I'm assuming you using a basket/shopping cart type thing, write the items that the client has selected to an XML file and store/retrieve that on the client machine when you need to do any processing. Why waste server side resources when you can save it on the client?
As a general rule of thumb when it comes to developing for the web, be cheap with your resources.

Javascript is the way to go:
<input type="text" onkeyup="countCharacters(this,'remaining',30)" maxlength="30" /><br />
Characters Remaining: <span id="remaining">30</span><br />
<script type="text/javascript"><br />
function countCharacters(source, outputId, maximum)<br />
{<br />
outputElement = document.getElementById(outputId);<br />
<br />
if(outputElement)<br />
{<br />
var length = source.value.length;<br />
outputElement.innerText= maximum - length;<br />
}<br />
<br />
<br />
}<br />
</script>
