Dear Sirs,
I need to generate a unique 12 digit number. i need it to be unique even if the application gets restarted. Is there any solution for this...?

Every time you create one, write it to a database, and when you are creating a new one, check if it's existed before.

Thanks for ur reply...
i need that key to be secured. so that if u have a key then u should not be able to predict other keys. hence is there any specific algorithm for generating unrelated keys...

you can use Select newid() in SQL Server
this will give you a unique identifier. but it's longer than 12 characters.

There is no way that you can totally disable prediction of keys.
You can use the random generator in the encryption classes, that will give you an extremely good randomness.

hi,
you can use the Guid class to generate an random, unique number,
but you can't set the length or format.
the syntax is easy:
Guid number = new Guid();
i hope this helps you

There is nothing that happens on the server when the browser closes. The server is not at all aware of it.
You can catch the onunload event in the browser and open a new window that would send a signal to the server and then close itself. You would have to keep track of the navigation between pages, though, as the onunload event occurs not only when the browser closes, but also every time a new page is loaded.

Hi
Here is an example for displaying date in any format:
DateTime DtmDate = DateTime.Now;
System.Globalization.DateTimeFormatInfo dfi = new System.Globalization.DateTimeFormatInfo();
dfi.ShortDatePattern = "dd-MMM-yyyy";
LabelDate.Text = DtmDate.ToString("d", dfi);
Note the difference : In ShortDatePattern, you can give any format. "mm" gives month in number and "MMM" gives month as short form of month (ie. three characters)
Rate this message. Thank you. Harini

You can also get today's date by
Now.ToString("dd-MMM-yy")

Hi. I have a fairly complex and large ASP.NET (VB.NET) web app with one major feature missing, streaming audio, specifically MP3. I am familiar with a couple of methods, like I could do a postback and write a < bgsound > tag, or could pop up a dialog (for some browsers) and use the same tag, but I think there is a more professional way to do this, that would allow the user transport control and a short playlist. I can easily build the UI, playlist functionality, etc. - what I need to know is what would be the most professional, true .NET style method to do the audio streaming? (a method that might enable the user to pause, restart, and skip)
Thanks to anyone who can help!
