Hi Michael,

It means created the silverlight application which hosts in asp.net,am I right?

Actually, I would like to do is create Asp.net website(navigation), then when I click on the link it will appear the Login form in the asp.net webform which mean the design is using css and asp.net but the content such as registration form, login form...etc is using silverlight.

Can I do this way?

In my opinion, you should consider two things. Do you want to use Silverlight partially with ASP.NET or do you want to create full Silverlight application (e.g. Hard Rock Cafe, etc)?

I will use Silverlight partially if I want to host Silverlight Game, Video/Audio Players, Silverlight Advertisements.

I will use Full Silverlight Application if I want to develop RIA application.

In your case, I would like to suggest you full-silverlight application instead of using silverlight partially.

Thanks for your suggestion.

But I would like to know whether there was any difficulty connecting the data with the MySQL database or not? Actually, I am creating a store website and the client can order the products online. Because Silverlight is new Microsoft product,hence, I am not sure whether have any issue with the database connection or not?

Hi Katelva,

Silverlight is a client-side technology which runs on the user's browser. so, you can't connect with any database directly from Silverlight. but you can create the service (i.e: ASMX webservice, WCF, ADO.NET Data Service, Java or Webservice that follows WS Basic-Profile 1.1 ) and you can connect with that web service.

there are a few samples how to do CRUD (Create, Retrieve, Update, Delete) operation in Silverlight in my blog. you may want to read them.

Multiple ItemTemplates in a ListBox

Hi,

I'm relatively new to WPF and am still trying to get my head around certain aspects so if this is a stupid question please accept my apologies in advance.

I have a listbox that is bound to a list of custom objects.
Based on the value of a property in each object I want the listbox item to be displayed differently

The data binding is working fine and the item template that I am using works fine, my problem is in changing the item template based on a property value.

Trivial example:

Assume I have a class Person with two properties : Male and Female

If Male == true I want the listbox item to be rendered as a grid with three rows and 2 columns
If Female == true I want the listbox to be rendered as a grid with a single row

Is this possible?

We do something like this by having a base listboxitem class, then having derived classes which have styles, and which we use to add items. We mix styles within the listbox tho, sounds like you want to have one or the other. I am asking something similar below, and a Property Trigger is what was suggested for me.

I would start by looking at using triggers in the style of the data template given to the ItemTemplate property. On a hunch, the style will probably not do quite what you need since it sounds more like you are using two different data templates. In that case, I would look at the ItemTemplateSelector property, which takes a DataTemplateSelector (documentation on MSDN).

I have a slider and I want to change the bitmap used for the slider control, and the size of the slider, based on a boolean property.

So within a style for the slider, I want to change ' Slider_Thumb' in the following:

<Track Name="PART_Track">

<Track.Thumb>

<Thumb x:Name="Thumb" Style="{StaticResource Slider_Thumb}"/>

</Track>

and the height in this line:

<Setter Property="Height" Value="16" />

How do I go about doing that ?

Where does the boolean property come from?
If it is one of the Sliders or Thumbs properties a Trigger will work. See the ControlTemplate example for slider, it uses a Trigger to change the color of the thumb on mouse over and change the size of the slider based on its orientation.
If the property is from elsewhere a DataTrigger might work but you would probably have to alter your resources a bit.

Hi,

I am new in WPF and would like some advices of you guys if something is possible to do in WPF.

For our application, we want to show a list of objects - List - in a ListView. Until now nothing difficult. But each object A contains several properties which are in turns others objects (object B, object C, ...).

So we think it could be good idea to combine a Treeview with a ListView. Because we need a "classification tree" look, the TreeViewItem need to be showned horizontally - not vertically like in a normal tree. This too is not difficult to do with WPF. The difficulty is to know which columns is to be showned in the ListView when a node of the tree is opened or collapsed.

So our idea here would be to adapt the templace of the ListView header so that each nodes/leafs of the tree correspond to one column header of the ListView. Do you means this would be possible to do in WPF.

The alternativ would be to use a horizontal TreeView and a seperate ListView and to adapt the column of the Listview when the user open/close a tree node. Which I don't know how to do actually in WPF.

May be somebody can give me some advices?

Binding a panel to the selected item type

Hello,
i'm studying WPF for quite a while and i've some problems understanding how to perform a simple implementation i usually use in my programs. I've a treeview representing at the various levels different types of items. When i click on an item i can see a form/property grid/etc showing the attributes of that element so i can modify/see them. Of coruse each type of element has different attributes.
There's also another situation when you have a list of items and not a treeview, but each item is logically attached to a serie of data (see for example an options dialog when you have the list of categories on the left and on the right the options of the selected category)

I'm thinking about two ways to do that and i'd like your opinions:

1) Assign a window (or i presume, an user control) to a panel on the fly when the selected item is change. Is it possible? There's a way to do that only via xaml?

2) Load each type of details control via xaml and somehow bind the visibily property of each control to the type of the selected item

3) As you can do a datatemplate to represent each item in the treeview, apply different templates to the panel binded to the selected item of the treeview, using the DataType property of the template to bind the correct panel to the current item type. Is it possible? Is there any example of that?

It sounds to me like you are describing what would normally be done with a tab control. I would start there and style the tab control to get the "tabs" to look how you want. Since TabControl inherits from ItemsControl, any trick you used for other list/tree controls should work there as well. Hopefully some sort of style would work, but if not, you could always write a new control template.

If that does not work, I would recommend your option 2. I would use radio buttons (with the template modified to not show the circles) in a stack panel and bind the Visibility of the options "pages" to the IsChecked of the radio button. Since Visibility is not a boolean, this will of course require either a converter or some clever triggers.

A little poking around and I got this as something you may be able to start from:

I am setting a combobox with 3 choices that the user will select one. When the choice is made, I want to put the choice in the Properties.Settings.Default.ApplicationSelected which I have defined as an int. So far, so good.

But when the user restarts the application, I would like to cause the combobox to be set to the saved choice. I haven't found any way to do this, and I get an error when I do this:

comboBox1.SelectedIndex = Properties.Settings.Default.ApplicationSelected;

How do I do this?

Are you sure that the setting is being saved???

I do all my users settings binding in XAML:

Create a ResourceSettings.xaml file like:

then for each setting you wish to bind do:

Don't forget to add a window_closed to your main window with:
