My surroundings regard me as an extrovert.
In truth I only look like one, and feel like an introvert living in an extroverted body.
I feel very insulted by this poll!

Don't get me wrong, American are striving to be extrovert. Not me. I don't want my manager's job. I don't want to talk to people all day long. Proud to be coder and having fun with 0's and 1's. And being a pessimist allows me to see things alternatively outside the box.

Introvert, in the form of "leave me alone", "get off my lawn", and "do we HAVE to go out?"
But... I'm in a writer's group. They went and made me president, so I have to sit up front and wave the gavel, lead the group, and speak in public in front of 10 - 20 people. So when the bursts of extrovert behavior come upon me, I ham it up for the crowd and produce a pleasing performance. This started ten years ago, about six months in they started calling me "President for Life" and I'm still stuck with it.
The good news is they are writers. Talk about a bunch of introverts!

I'm a poster child for introvert who successfully fakes being an extrovert.

Exactly! Introvert by nature, who has learned how to fake extrovert-ness enough to survive in a business environment.
There are two kinds of people. Those who need closure

I'm also a bass player in a band and we're giving concerts. Seems extrovert? Yes. But in reality, no. On stage, I'm isolated and audience can not reach there. I'm in safe with my band. ![Laugh |](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/smiley_laugh.gif)

That's exactly why I answered that it depends on the situation, as well. Playing guitar on stage. I'm thinking to myself, well that's definitely extrovert, but not really.

In almost all social settings I am introverted (read shy/awkward).
In my comfort zones (home/work) I can be extroverted under the right circumstances.
My plan is to live forever ... so far so good

One of my pet peeves is when someone asks me what my "social" is, referring to my social security number. Because this annoys me, my usual response is, "mild introversion." It usually gets a chuckle. When it doesn't I am annoyed that much more.

I don't think there is a middle ground. It's like a battery, either you re-charge from being around other people, or you discharge from being around people (and have to be alone to recharge).

I've removed my birthday from every possible place. Told HR not to publish it. Enjoying the silence... ![Cool |](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/smiley_cool.gif)

Curious! In the US, privacy laws are such that (at least these days) HR would be in some bit trouble if they released anyone's birth date. That's very sensitive information, useful for Identity Theft, in particular - and embarrassing balloons and nauseating sheet cake, as well.

I'm sure it's not what you intended, but one option to avoid people giving your birthday parties is for them to give you a wake. As it is said, be careful what you ask for!

The same can be said of hiding your extrovertness by introverting into your interverted self, thus rendering your vert on the extro, invisible.
