Introduction
This article aims to provide a central directory for homepages (personal as well as professional) of CP members, thus promoting unity amongst the CP community.
How it all started
It all started when Vikram decided to dedicate a whole page in his new website to provide links to members of CodeProject. He posted a thread on this and the response was encouraging. Amongst the replies were suggestions to host the page at CodeProject itself instead of his own site. One such person was Brian Welsch. Vikram, on a hunch asked Brian if he'd be interested in helping him write the article, and Brian instantly agreed. Thus this article was born.
How it works
We wanted to keep this article fairly simple. Amongst the options we discussed were:
- Creating a form at CP and automatically updating the contents of the article, but this was too complex.
- Asking readers to post a comment on the article, with their homepage. This was rejected because it might be abused, and more importantly, only 25 messages are visible at a time, which means that earlier messages are hidden.
Finally, we decided on the safest thing to do- all you have to do is send an email to CP_HomePages@yahoo.com, giving
- Your CP display name (NOT your login email address) and your CP ID number (required for linking to profiles)
- Your homepage
- A short description of your homepage, not exceeding 2 lines
- What topic you'd like your homepage listed under (please see list below for topics).
We chose this approach since it allows us to go through what you want to put up, preventing the article from being abused. Also, it needs less work on our part. You will receive an email from one of us within a week, and if no further clarifications are needed, your homepage will be added to the article.
