One random thought, which might not work:
If a user starts typing in the "solution" box on one of their own questions, show a big warning banner asking them whether they're actually trying to update their question, with a big "edit question" button.
Possibly with another confirmation message when they click submit.
It won't catch them all, but it might make it more obvious to new users who don't know how to update their question.

I haven't been receiving notifications and newsletters from CP in a while. I suspect that this is due to our company changing the address naming scheme, and phasing out the old addresses.
I wanted to fix my email address in my profile settings, but that requires an email confirmation, and it appears that the confirmation mail is *not* sent to the new, but to the old, invalid email address!
How can I confirm the change of address when the old is invalid??
Problem solved: I had mistyped the new address

I am opinionated, so I have been told by many...
I am not against technology, but...
what's with all these (obviously )- an opinion - see above -
LONG ABANDONED and UNANSWERED "quick answers" ?
( Obviously ) oxymoron title.
I am not against keeping archive, but are all these unanswered "quick" questions worth keeping ?
Make a managerial decision
if the "quick" question DOES NOT have accepted answer after period of time , ditch it!

|
|

The decision was made some time ago, and some of us are authorised to remove old questions. The problem is that there are thousands of them. It's a bit like painting the forth bridge (before long-life paint was invented).

Quote: if the "quick" question DOES NOT have accepted answer after period of time , ditch it! I'd have to ask .. why?
-Is it really worth going to the effort of writing and testing the code to delete them?
- Not all questioners "Accept" a solution so straight away there are questions as to your thinking.
- Not all questions end up with a solution because a member may have answered the question in a comment instead - this is a very frequent occurrence. So don't delete "unanswered" questions with comments? What if the comment is "please update your question with the code / error message / more detail"
- how long is a "period of time"? One week, one month, one year? Does one size really fit all?
Don't forget, you can report a question as "Unclear or Incomplete", "Off Topic" etc. Just convince 2 other members to do the same and the question will automatically be deleted.

It's perfectly fine (for you) to ask why.
But I am NOT interested in discussing my post.
Everybody has a different view / opinion.
If the forum "quick answers" is managed for purpose of keeping "statistics" / archive there is
no point to discuss.
What I do object is to have "discussions" and "quick answers" - two forums.
What I see is that "quick answers" is just easy catch all. It must be difficult to post in proper "discussions" forum.
So if it is the main forum, the "comments" format is goofy. (Just try to post real code there)
Cheers

Go to My Settings and I'm here Your CodeProject Settings (This page allows you to modify your current profile.) At the bottom of the page go to Sign in using your Social Network Account. Here I connected with GitHub, Google and Microsoft.

Perhaps more of us have the good sense not to be part of any Social Network (except, of course, CP).

I am not seeing any issue with LinkedIn, but am seeing a rate limiting issue with FaceBook.
What error are you getting when trying to login using LinkedIn?
I'll look into this.

Well, I'm not getting any problems with FaceBook either.
It seems that if you enter the incorrect password, you get an error message about rate limiting, not a password error. : :
Please try again, and if you still have issues, verify your LinkedIn and Facebook passwords by going to the sites and logging in.

This may have been suggested already, but it would be good if CP had a dark mode.

CP Dark Theme[^]
Chris Maunder wrote: We've played around with it and no - it doesn't look good.
As I said last year, I'm one of those weird people who gets eye strain from looking at light text on a dark background, so having the option to chose would be essential.
I've seen sites which added a dark mode as an option, and then removed the light mode option because it was too much work to maintain both.

I use dark mode everyewhere that it's an option - Visual Studio, Twitter, Facebook, Outlook etc. I find it drastically reduces the amount of eye strain.

For you.
For me, it drastically increases the amount of eye strain.
Which is why I said it would have to be an option, rather than forcing it on everyone.

Same here. I generally change my cmd windows to black on white if I need to use them for any length of time.
