According to the Style.TargetType Property documentation, setting a TargetType property to a style without setting an x:Key, implicitly sets the x:Key to that type (and implicitly applied to the controls of that type, if you didn't set other style for them...). So, it looks like that isn't the problem...
Anyway, IMO style isn't the right approach here. It seems like MultiBinding is a better approach here (see my solution).

In your code you replace all the content of your element. You should keep its content and, just append to it. And, since you want to manage your grid in the client side, instead of using an ASP.NET WebForms control that is managed by the server, it's can be more convenient to use simple HTML tags that can be managed in the client side. Go over the given chat example. You can see how they append an li element (for each message) to an ul element. In your case, if you want to show a grid, you can use a table (and add tr elements) instead of a list.

Are you serious? You set node to null and, use it in the line after. It isn't surprising that you get a NullReferenceException (about node). By the way, setting node to null does nothing to the sent object because the parameter is passed by value. Try to pass the parameter by reference and set it at the last line (after the whole of its uses).

Why don't you want to use binding? MVVM is a recommended pattern. It's a good practice to change your data in your model and, just reflect the changes to the view (using the view-model).

You send &object as a parameter. - Does it a pointer to the stack (not a good idea...)?
If you want to store an object and delete it (and keep the data in the list), you should store a copy of the object (and, delete it when you remove it from the list).

You can define converter by implementing the IValueConverter interface. But, why do you want to do that? By setting your property's type to CornerRadius, you can set a different radius for each corner (and can also set one number that is applied to the whole of the corners).

As it looks, you do want to perform a task after the animation is finished. The task is: "make a new image". So, if you want to hold the algorithm until the animation is finished, you can use the Completed event or a Timer, like I wrote.
If you want to disable some UI elements until the animation is finished, you can use the IsEnabled property of the elements.
If you realy want to block the UI (not recomended), you can use the Thread.Sleep method with the duration of the animation.

That happens because your view-model's property gets the value of the changed TabControl's SelectedIndex (via the Binding), when it is changed.
Try to store the value of the "SelectedIndex" view-model's property, in a local variable, before you change the DataContext of the TabContol and, set the original value after the DataContext of the TabControl has been changed.

It doesn't help to only bind the SelectedItem to a property in the view-model since the Binding works with INotifyPropertyChanged. The PropertyChanged event is raised when the property is changed and, that is the way the Binding knows to change the DependencyProperty's value.
When you change the DataContext's of the TabControl, there is no raise of the PropertyChanged event for the "SelectedItem" (the property with the stored SelectedItem value) property...
Try to set the SelectedItem of the TabControl when you change its DataContext.
