FreedMalloc - Professional Profile

Born and raised in northern Minnesota (Bemidji to be exact). As a senior in high school I took a beginning course in programming. After a few weeks I found I enjoyed it and that I was fairly proficient at it, at least compared to my classmates. I also discovered the typical starting salary for a programmer. And thus, an illustrious career was born.

After a 4 year degree (a BS from BSU no less) the diploma said I was a competent programmer (or at least a good risk). Upon finding a job in the Twin Cities area I immediately learned that I had a lot to learn just to become a competent let alone proficient programmer. I'm still learning. Maybe some day I'll even be proficient.

Fast forward through 37 years first mainframe Fortran programming moving to Unix C and C++ and finishing my career in Windows C++ MFC and C# .NET programming. Working for 4 to 7 different companies depending on how you look at mergers and buy outs.

My wife and I have since retired to South Dakota, fleeing Minnesota's taxes while staying fairly close to our new grandson. I now dabble in Java on a Linux PC from time to time and try my hand at the CP cryptic clue in my copious spare time (around the honey-dos, household puttering, travel and general laziness).
