Didn't notice that! Reported it as the wrong type though

Did you read YouTube terms? I'm not native English but I understand it as download or playing outside YouTube's page is illegal...
Quote: you agree not to access Content through any technology or means other than the video playback pages of the Website itself, the YouTube Player, or such other means as YouTube may explicitly designate for this purpose; https://www.youtube.com/t/terms[^]

Yes - you are correct. Section 5 D as well is being violated Quote: D.you agree not to (or attempt to) circumvent, disable or otherwise interfere with any security related features of the Service or features that (i) prevent or restrict use or copying of Content or (ii) enforce limitations on use of the Service or the content accessible via the Service;
and the OPs comment Quote: Well, VEVO don't want people downloading their copyrighted videos, so they made youtube add a special protection layer on these videos. highlights that breach!

Good spot. IMHO it's the same illegal!
I send it to @Chris-Maunder, he may have some experience with this kind of things...

The VB version's gone, but the original C# version is still up:

IANAL, but I'm guessing that if one violates the ToS, then they both do.

Looks like he has taken the article down.
I did see a debate about this issue recently (last week?). I am not sure where, but I think it was in the article section of a similar article. Someone pointed out, that as we browse around the Internet and click on various video links, they often bring up a YouTube video even though we (as users) have not been presented with the terms and have not accessed it (knowingly) through the YouTube website.
I am not sure I possess the expertise to determine whether the code is legal or not.

I see you point, but there is a huge difference between you seeing a page with an embedded video (using YouTube approved player) and between you writing a code that directly violates the terms...

This[^] member, here[^] in QA posted a wall of code and has done nothing but post nonsense "solutions" to it. Seems like abuse to me.

You shouldn't have abused the vote to remove button then.
