How do I work the XCode IDE?

Hi,

I am a complete beginner to Apple coding, and I am really struggling with the XCode IDE. Everywhere I look, there are menu options to 'Show <x>', but nowhere do I see options to 'Hide <x>'. Thus my IDE now has about ten panels open, and my coding window is the size of a postage stamp.

Can anyone please point me at a tutorial or help for the IDE? Every Google search I try gives help for actually writing apps, which is great, but first I need to be able to work my IDE.

Any help gratefully received.

Isn't that obvious that if the "Show" operation is enabled, there is nothing to hide yet? :-)

That's what I would expect, but I am not seeing any 'Hide' options.

This is 5-point system used in voting. 5, if you don't mind means "excellent", 1 — "very bad", 2 - "bad", and so on.
