So I'm doing some research on the development of POS (Point Of Sale) applications... This is a shot in the dark here, and im kind of hoping someone could help me or point me in the right direction.

But I've surfed the internet trying to find out information about what software, IDEs,SDKs frameworks, standards, languages and libraries are used during the process of point of sale application development..

I thought I would come across stuff like, Visual Studio and SQLSever 2008 but I came across UnifiedPOS, JavaPOS, OPOS etc... and it has confused me.. I cant even get a straight answer on what software is used for the development of the application

Could anyone here help? or even provide some understanding on the subject, try to avoid using jargon as im quite new to this stuff.

Would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are doing it the wrong way round. The first thing you need to do is the overall design of the application and its use cases. Once you have that you can start looking for a framework or language that lends itself to helping to create the final product.
