How do I get name of image clicked or store it on button click submit

I'm a junior dev and my current project is in spring but unlike JavaScript I cant access the dom.How would I add something to a image so when I click it I can save its name or when I click a submit button that it will be saved. I have been searching for a way for 2 days and failing. There is 6 images 2 choose from for product customization. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I have tried:

I have tried 2 use fetch but i cant seem 2 make it work.Maybe i am getting the url wrong,but if possible doing it in java spring is the best
