I am using LibVlc to provide an on-screen live video feed and I would like to be able to start and stop recording the feed to file without affecting the feed to the screen. I have seen the following used to duplicate the stream to a file but it appears that this needs to be done up front and so cannot be changed afterwards
libvlc_media_add_option()
I'm not sure that my understanding is correct but I have read somewhere that options cannot be changed once added. Is there a way to have start/stop recording with libvlc?

Thanks

What I have tried:

I have tried reading the libvlc help but it is overwhelming and assumes that you know what you are doing (which I don't).
