How to update likes, comments of the disscussion board list using sharepoint REST API

Hi,

I need to know how to update likes of a Disscussion Board list item using Sharepoint REST API from a link.

I have a webpart in a page like below:
[Model Web Part]

By clicking the "Likes" link, it need to update the likes in Discussion Board of Sharepoint site.

This I need to achieve by SharePoint REST API.

Kindly suggest your ideas.....

I have tried to achieve by a custom javascript function to increment the click count and by AJAX try to update the respective item, but failed.
