Sorry for my newbie question..

If I buy a script with a lifetime license that calls out to validate the license, is there a risk of the script someday not working anymore?

For instance, what if the creator of the script got out of the business and their server went down for good?

I would hate to have spent thousands on developers making a licensed script better, then it stops working because the license validation can't go through.

Any insight on to how license validation works is appreciated

What I have tried:

nothing yet.. I;m just developing out a script

That's a very general question without much details about the language and platform used.
So here is a general advice, you could try to get an Escrow agreement that states for instance that the source code is guarded by a third party and released when the creator goes out of business.
