The problem I came across is this. I've always been a microsoft guy but recently I switched over to firefox browser. Truthfully I do not find any difference as far as speed and handling. Except ie is not html5 compatible and therefore no longer suitable. I'm also avoiding the edge browser.

How do others handle writing code for both worlds. And do we care to do this? For the longest time I have the three browsers and as I develop I bring up the three browser and go back and forth to ensure what I write is compatible for all three. Is there a more efficient way to do this?

What I have tried:

I bring up all three browsers.

1 solution

This really is more an opinion question; but here we go.

1. Develop valid HTML, and run it through a validation tool to make sure your code is valid. If it is not valid, browsers do fall backs and quirk modes. You never know what you are going to get

2. Develop for Chrome. It is the number 1 browser and if it works there then most people will not have an issue.

3. Safari. Shouldn't be too far off from Chrome, as they both have WebKit as a code source

4. Edge. We have to see what happens with this; now that it is also on the Chromium code base. In theory it should work fine. Older versions are going to be abandon-ware shortly.

5. Firefox. They are trying to keep up with Chrome. I used to have it as my primary browser but it is getting to be sloppy and slow to respond on my desktop with a standard hard drive. So now I am on Chrome.

6. IE. Should only be used for things that need it. I do not develop for it at all

As we've been told by Microsoft, IE is not a browser[^]. :)
