How do I connect two separate website databases

We have two separate websites where users enter media into two separate SQL databases.
We have been tasked with connecting the two databases so that the user can enter data on one website and have it automatically copy to the other websites database.
We need to keep the two websites separate.
Is there a way to easily do this?
Is there a gap program that could connect the two databases?
How much coding experience would be needed to complete this?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
