This is beyond odd ... the following corruption has occurred to all of the forms files when I view a form in either Visual Studio 2012 and VS 2017. All of the controls on the form appears in the lower design area (I really don't know what that area of a VS2017 forms designer is so I cannot be more specific).

Here is a picture that will make things a bit more clear.

Thanks for any help,

C. T. Blankenship

What I have tried:

I've restored the project from many backups I have. No matter how far back I go the problem persists.

I have never seen that in any version of VS. I suggest you open the frmDataImport.Designer.cs file in a text editor to see if you can spot anything amiss.

OH MY GOD!!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the development environment. I transferred the entire project to my backup development machine and the files are perfectly OK. Last night I upgraded the entire Windows OS to the newest version (at the behest of MS as my last version was going past the support window). That just CAN'T be the problem ... can it?

Have you tried to open VS in admin mode?

Please, read my comment to the question first.

I guess that it is NOT a bug. You enabled document outline view:
View --> Other Windows --> Document Outline

Disable it and everything should be OK.

Damn ... I gave accolades prematurely ... I did as you suggested and it appeared to work on one form then the problem came back. When you say 'disable' do you mean to close the window? I went to the menu option you suggested and selected 'Document Outline' but the only thing that did was to close the Document Outline window.

Sorry if I'm being dense.

Well... If it not helped, try to repair/reinstall VS.

Never mind guys ... I reinstalled Windows and my development environment. It was a two day struggle but everything is working now. I sure would have liked to know what happened. Now I just created a disk image of the C drive and can initialize back to a stable environment if Windows Update begins to get squirrely again.

I changed the actual link into a href that is allowed by CodeProject ... please try again. Thanks for the heads up.
