Hidden variable in master page unload

Hi,

I have added a client function to update a hidden variable in master page onbeforeunload event. I am getting the value being alerted but after post back when i explore the request.form or directly the hidden variable i am not able to find the value.

Should we not update the hidden variable in onbeforeunload event?
