Can some one help me in creating a cross wrod application? I am not sure about how a cross word application works.Any pointers are also welcomed.

Thank fix the spelling in the title and the text of the question.
"Cross Word" to me sounds like an "application to support compatibility between different versions of Microsoft Word" or something like that :-).

If you have no idea how to do it, then you can't do it. You can pay some people to do it for you, or read books and learn until you have some ideas how to start at least.

As someone who creates crosswords may I give a few pointers.

Firstly have a set of blank grids, about a dozen or so.
Secondly, have a very good dictionary to hand.
Thirdly, have a cerebrum like a spiral staircase.
Fourthly, on no account attempt to create a program that will make crosswords for you.

Seriously, it is incredibly hard, there are so many permutations and just thinking of suitable clues to the words is an act of genius and frustration.

It is one of those tasks for which the human mind is by far and away much better.

This depends on the level of automation needed. Setting the clues is the hard part, and is practically impossible for a machine, as you state. Setting up the grid, keeping track of the clues and protecting against the conflicting answers as an aid to the setter is all perfectly possible , if a bit of a task.

Excellent advice, especially the last item. It is really very hard but I think quite feasible. Just a relatively big and difficult project. Nevertheless, my 5.
