How do I contact a member with a private message ?

I read an article which the member wrote, and I have a question for him which is "sort of" , but not really related to the topic of his article, hence I do not want to ask the question in the comments section of the article.

What I have tried:

I went to his profile, but I don't see an option there where I can send a message.

The only way to contact a member privately is to use the "Email" facit]lity on any forum message. So if he has replied to any message at the bottom of the article, then looking at his message may show "Reply·Email·View Thread | Edit·Delete" and clicking on "Email" will give you a new page to enter your message.

Two caveats though:
1) Not all members have it turned on. It's on by default, but some members turn it off for privacy. If it's turned off, you will see just "Reply·View Thread | Edit·Delete" instead.
2) Sending a private email sends the recipient your login email address (so they can reply if they wish). It does not give you theirs, and unless they reply directly you have no way of knowing if your message reached them (some members login with a "dummy email" or an address they do not check).

Generally, all correspondence here is public; personally I reply to very few direct emails from members as I receive quite enough emails every day as it is...

Reply to the article and wait for a response. In the article there is usually (but not always) mail option (author may disable it). Finally, if you read the comments there may be a way to contact the author if someone already asked.

As far as I know, there is no way to contact someone directly.
