How do I fix value cannot be null parameter name: source error when trying to create a .NET core web application?

I'm trying to create a .Net core web application, but when I input the name of the application and i click ok, it throws an error, saying:

Value cannot be null
parameter name: source.

The folder gets created in the path provided but with no solution files within, whats the problem and how do I remedy it. Thank you.

What I have tried:

I tried re-starting Visual Studio and it didn't work. Even tried opening another .net core web application i downloaded online and that too did not work.
