If I have a speech recognition SDK for Java (or any other language), then do I really need Amazon's Alexa or Google's home to trigger events on voice? Or is there something special about them?

What I have tried:

Asking same question on Quora, keeps getting rejected for some reason.

Probably gets rejected because it is not a valid question. A simple decision like this is for you to make; no one else can tell you what is best.

no, i think it is totally valid, users are not the ones rejecting it, it's the automatic system that does

Well it's still not a valid question for CodeProject. But I suspect on the other site it is getting caught by their spam filter.

It depends on your requirement. If you want it just for voice recognition then you definitely wouldn't need such devices. But remember, Alexa or Google home are complete voice assistant and has ability to learn from your interaction with them.

Would suggest to go through wiki for these and see if they fit into your requirement.
