What technology is used in xender app? I think it uses FTP rather than wifidirect pls help

I need a starting point to my Android project, for me this will be a big help. because my idea is based on transferring files between android devices.

What I have tried:

Searched a lot! but didin't get an answer

thank you for your time.. i saw this answer and i read and make projects with WiFi Direct.. but in WiFi Direct it doesn't uses hotspot.. but xender uses..
and in xender we can send/recieve datas seamlessly..
