They aren't producing ARM chips that are being churned out by the billions to power our cellphones and handhelds.
But then, the company that is the designer of the original ARM chip isn't on the list either.

Are you seriously suggesting Amazon is a technology company?

The offer amazing web service products and tools.
So, they do have a tech side to them, just not traditional, like Microsoft, I guess.

Yeah, I read the story this morning. I hope their employment conditions change.
Now that I know their employees are treated like crap, we will see how long I stay with them.
As of this morning, I am starting to climb the fence.

Developing for (and on) Microsoft and Intel technologies pays the bills. Other companies are part of that as well, but those two are the pillars.
CodeProject has been a life saver on many occasions. Throw CodeGuru and Stack Overflow in there as well.
When I look around at my electronic devices, Panasonic comes out on top.
But IBM is the winner! No, I am not saying that because they are in the process of buying the company I work for.

They're not really a tech company anymore, like Google, Microsoft, and Apple are. Yahoo is more like a media company that displays web content and owns 15% of Alibaba and 33% of Yahoo Japan; plus their profits to earning ratio of 5/1 is that of a company in a mature market like media, not tech.

I had this notion that majority of people hate Microsoft or its technologies. But this poll clearly tells a different story. It's not even a challenge if we compare Microsoft with any other tech companies! Microsoft is the clear winner.

Microsoft a technology company? Who are you kidding! What have they invented? Duh, let me see, all of it bought.

Microsoft is not a clear winner (IMHO) or maybe even winner.but are you an Apple fanboy? just asking

I think in this case... it's just a reflection of the demographics of this particular site. A majority of developers on this site are MS focused developers. I'm sure you'd get different results on the same survey in say, SO... or heck, the Ubuntu forums.

I can't believe you forgot this option.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Because they wrote their entire app in PHP, so they are considered an anti-technology company.
Am I funny yet?
Seriously, though...PHP?

Well, that thing is certainly a money maker for them but that's not the only thing they do After all they created Open Compute Project[^] and a lot of other open source stuff.

I agree with you. It is amazing that they've taken the technology as far as they have and that they've been able to make so much money from the FB site. Plus the committment to open source is definitely admirable.

Not trying to defend PHP (or Facebook's use of it, for that matter), but they have done some really cool stuff with it to make it better, such as this[^].
