Would it be at all possible to position webpage elements in Jscript or JScript.NET? I mean, I know I can do it, but has anybody ever heard of anyone else doing that?

That is not a correct statement. My advice, don't make assumptions, choose to read information[^]
Of course one cannot assume wikipedia (or most anything on the web) is authoritative so use some common sense.

I made no assumptions. I was going by what I had previously read.

Do you have an online sample where we can see what you're trying to do?
Can you point out another web page that has a similar design / layout to what you're trying to accomplish?

The easiest option is to use a bordering div with a fixed width. a centered div 1000px wide would be
.outer {
width:1000px;
margin auto;
}
You can position your div tags inside that - best way is with px or a percentage - but when you have the bordering div you should rarely need to use the "position" rule. Using more div tags (sometimes instead of using padding or margin rules) often saves a lot of hassle too (and makes your web apps more cross-browser compatible).
Fluid layouts (ones that resize with the browser) are harder to manage - and take a bit of thought and planning (i.e. what screen resolutions are my users using, what font-size there browser uses, mobile users, etc).
If you have trouble with multiple browser rendering, consider using "sid meyers reset.css style sheet". It's a little dated but still works pretty well. You may want to delete some of his rules though.

Hi all,
I, for some weird reason decided to have a look at the (by selecting view source in Internet Explorer) HTML source code for http://www.bing.com/ (formerly live.com) and to my surprise they are using Javascript. Why the hell would Microsoft be using Javascript when they have their own version called Jscript (which, in my opinion, is better. Not that there's much of a difference anyway.)? I find the thought of knowing that they are using another's language instead of their own version quite... Unsettling.
Peace.
Jason.

jscript and javascript are not the same thing ? Then I assume they are doing it to support other browsers.

I think you're right about that one, but I have tried Jscript in Firefox and Opera and it works. Unless maybe there's certain parts of Jscript that are for I.E only...?

I suspect that FF and Opera ignore the tag and work out that it's javascript. Unless you know of specific differences between jscript and javascript ? I don't know of any.

Well, apparently, Jscript and Javascript are very much ECMAScript-compliant and the only difference between Jscript and Javascript that I'm aware of is the fact that Application-Specific Objects like the D.O.M and the S.O.M (Server Object Model) differ. That's the only thing I can think of. Hmmm, that's got me thinking now...

I'm trying to use the componentart menu control to either show or hide certain controls, similar to the "Client-side commands" demo example on their website(http://aspnetajax.componentart.com/control-specific/menu/programming_client/client_sideCommands/WebForm1.aspx[^]).
My problem however, is everytime I click a menu item, I get an error which reads: "toggleElement is not defined".
A sample line from my xml file looks like this:
<item Text="Stats" ClientSideCommand="toggleElement('pnlStats')" />
My aspx file line looks like this:
<asp:Panel id="pnlStats" runat="server">
And I have my javascript setup in my "" tag to look like this:
function toggleElement(eName) {
if (document.getElementById(eName).style.visibility == 'visible')
document.getElementById(eName).style.visibility = 'hidden';
else
document.getElementById(eName).style.visibility = 'visible'
}
I've also tried replacing my "pnlStats" panel with exactly what was in their demo sample:
<input id="txtFN" type="text" size="35" style="visibility:visible;">
but I still had the same error.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

Hi,
Just try to check whether the pnlStats control which you have passed in the toggleElement() function is null or not. If you are using VS2008 then you can directly debug the javascript function. Also check whether the pnlStatus is visible or hidden at the time you are calling the javascript function.

Hi,
I've been trying to create a layout that is essentially like facebook, the two main features of it being:
1- Centred, constant width website body
2 - Content height seems to be set to 100% as the toolbar always sticks to the bottom of the browser.
I have managed to get a containing div to centre horizontally using a relatively positioned div with left/right margins set to auto, but doing this relatively stops me from being able to set the height of the div to 100%.
So to summarise I want the main body of my site to be a constant width (probably 1024px), be centred horizontally, and be 100% in height.
Does anyone know how to achieve this as I can't seem to get the horizontal centering and 100% height working together.
Thanks
Andy

:~hello friend ......
.......You have to work with the css and you will be able to do this
..For that you have to create the css file for your application and then you can define the static margin or the value which you want in your application..........
...........Now it's your resposibility to do this search in site if you are not knowing the css .........

I have a Gridview having 3 columns in which i took checkbox,label and label as item templates for columns select,code,name respectively.
ecode column is not editable.Button edit and update are present outside of gridview.
i can edit multiple rows like this...
when i select checkbox in 1st row of gridview then in ename column of that row i added textbox by this code
protected void btnEdit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.Rows.Count; i++)
{
txteditEname = new TextBox();
CheckBox chkDelete = (CheckBox)GridView1.Rows[i].Cells[0].FindControl("chkSelect");
Label lblEname = (Label)GridView1.Rows[i].Cells[0].FindControl("lblEname");
if (chkDelete.Checked)
{
GridView1.Rows[i].Cells[2].Controls.Add(txteditEname);
txteditEname.Text = lblEname.Text;
lblEname.Visible = false;
}
}
}
protected void btnUpdate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
ArrayList al = new ArrayList();
for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.Rows.Count; i++)
{
CheckBox chkDelete = (CheckBox)GridView1.Rows[i].Cells[0].FindControl("chkSelect");
txteditEname = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[i].Cells[2].FindControl("txteditEname");
string str=txteditEname.Text;//error
//here i set breakpoint and wanted to retrieve txteditEname but error comes...
then thinking that there is no such textbox when i press Update button as autopost back then
i saved the txteditEname 's value in Viewstate but when i retrieved viewstate it showed me the textbox's value before page is posted back.
But the current txteditEname's value is different which i want to update.Please tell me how to get curret txteditEname's value.
But before that i wonder if this textbox is not available then i'll surely get null value.
}
