Yes. Create the form elements as a control, then you can place that control on a new form to make a form, or use it within your existing form, so that form2 appears within form1. You can also have a form appear at the bottom or right of an existing one, by simply changing the form size when a button is pressed, thus showing or hiding the area that has the form2 control on it.

Hi!
I've just crossed from VB6 to VB2005, and from ACCESS DB, to SQL, and have some stupid retard questions:
1. I have one form with 4 text boxes: barcode_textbox, id_textbox, name_textbox, stock_textbox and they are connected to database table called "PRODUCTS" , now i want when i enter a BARCODE or ID, to check if that BARCODE OR ID is already in database, and if it is, to automatically populate other text boxes with values of that products.
2. i want 2 datagrid on form, one is called "Customer" and the other "Sales", and when i click on one of the customer in datagrid, in the other datagrid i want to see all of the sales connected with that customer.
3. I don't understand something, but when i run my application from VB2005, i can't modify or add anything to my database, and when i run executable from \bin\debug it works fine???
I'm sorry for my bad English, but will appreciated any help.
Thank you,
CoolOT

1 - write a stored proc that takes the barcode and ID and returns a record if it exists. This would involve writing your own DB code, not using hte built in 'magic' stuff
2 - This is called a master-detail view, if you google that, you'll find heaps of examples
3 - not sure why that would be
It's called SQL Server, Access also uses SQL

I am rounding the end of a program and all of the sudden i am having this problem with the breakpoints not working. (VB 2005 Express Edition) The error says something about the code being different from the original so therefore it wont stop at the breakpoint. It turns the breakpoint from a red dot to an outline dot with a yellow Exclaimation. It also says to solve this problem go to tools, options, debugging, general and fix some setting but i dont even have a debugging section in my options menu.

Nevermind I think i figured it out, and just for future reference if your making a program that works closely with time variables its not good to push back your computer clock a couple hours to because the program gets confused over the fact that the files modified date and time is in the future.

My main form, which is an MDI Parent form is being strange at design time only. In the form editor I cannot select any of my menu strip items or my status bar items. They are not locked or disabled of anything. The forms locked property is false. I have tried shutting down my computer and reopening, and just reopening numerous times. Yesterday this was not happening, I saved my project, went home and now today I cannot select any items in my menustrip or status bar. This is not happening with any other forms.... Its so wierd and it is really pi$$ing me off. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!

is it possible in vb.net or c# to save an image to PNG-8 (8-bits)?
when saving using to a png i noticed is always to 24 bits but the image still a bit too large if i save it jpg i may save some size but the quality is bad
i ask this because i noticed when saving an image on photoshop to png-8 the quality is about the same as the png-24 but file save is about a 1/3 of the 24 bits
thank you

Photoshop supports a variety of formats that .NET does not. I don't think you can set bit depth of PNG in GDI+

Hello,
I have to develop a program that will allow a user to enter a url of a remote server and then copy files there.
I am not sure to get started with this, can anyone point me in the right direction.
Many thanks for any advice,

to start i think you have 2 options
1 will be to use a file upload and place the file at the server, the other will eb use some kind of ftp file transfer, i'm sure you will find some sample classes on both of this
now is this app web base or windows?

Hello,
Thanks for your ideas.
This will be developed using a windows .net 2005. Do you know of any good tutorials?
Thanks,
Steve

In VB.Net is there a simple way of displaying all the files in a selected folder depending on a criteria and how would you display via a message box the file selected.
Is it something like as follows. Getting mixed up with VB 6 and .net. I have a dirlistbox, drivelistbox and a filelistbox. I can get a connection between drive and folder but what is the syntax for the files. Feeling stupid here.
Private Sub drvLoc_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles drvLoc.SelectedIndexChanged
dirLoc.Path = drvLoc.Drive
End Sub
|
|
|
|
|
You would want to use a ComboBox and a ListBox for this. Like so:
Private Sub DriveComboBox_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DriveComboBox.SelectedIndexChanged
FolderListBox.Items.Clear()
For Each Dir As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetDirectories(DriveComboBox.SelectedItem, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly)
FolderListBox.Items.Add(Dir)
Next
End Sub
Private Sub FolderListBox_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FolderListBox.SelectedIndexChanged
FileListBox.Items.Clear()
For Each File As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(FolderListBox.SelectedItem, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly)
FileListBox.Items.Add(File)
Next
End Sub
Private Sub FileListBox_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FileListBox.SelectedIndexChanged
MsgBox(FileListBox.SelectedItem)
End Sub
The DriveListBox, DirListBox and the FileListBox are not what you would want to use for this. Microsoft doesn't even offer support for these controls anymore. Plus, ListBoxes are a lot more customizable.
Hope this helps.

Forgot to mebtion I am using visual studio 2003 and the name my and FileIO does not work.
How is this done in 2003.
Sorry for this

Well, I can't really help much with anything in VS2003, but you could go ahead and use a Drive, Directory and File ListBox (since you are using an older version of VS).
So, try this:
Private Sub DriveListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DriveListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
DirListBox1.Path = DriveListBox1.Drive
End Sub
Private Sub FolderListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DirListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
FileListBox1.Path = DirListBox1.Path
End Sub
Private Sub FileListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FileListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
MsgBox(FileListBox1.SelectedItem)
End Sub
Hope this helps!

I have a form where the user can add inventory items. Some items they will have multiple of the same item. I want the user to be able to enter all the information for that item except for the serial number field. I want them to be able to enter ALL of the serial numbers for all of the items at once.
EXAMPLE: A dept. buys 10 bullet proof vests. They go to enter the vests into the system. They type in all the information (make, model, cost, description, etc.) when they get to the last one which is serial number they can click the ENTER MULTIPLE button and have a small form pop up with a control to enter all 10 of the serial numbers for all 10 of the bullet proof vests.
I just need to know what the best control to use would be and any other information on how to use that control to accomplish what I need. THank you guys for your input. I do appreciate it, as always.

How is your database set up ? It sounds like you need a table for item types, and one for individual items ( an item type ID and a serial number, at minimum ).

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I got wrapped up on something else...
What Im really asking here, is what would be the best control to accept multiple serial numbers from the user. Like how you would enter a combo box's items in vb.net in the designer. You click on items in the property window and a rich text box comes up and you enter each combobox item each on a different line. Something like this. I guess I could do it like that, im just asking to see if you or anyone else can think of a better way to do it, and how... My database isnt built yet. I am writing the front-end first and then the back-end(SQL)...
Thanks for your help...

OK, I'd imagine your two options are to have a table to which a serial number is added in each row ( so, a combo box ), or, the way I see it mostly done, is a textbox and the serial numbers are semi colon delimited.
