If you have Set EnableViewState to true for a DataGrid which is having thousands of record. Then you will end up having viewstate size more than 10 KBytes. But if you disable viewstate, you will not be able to fire any events in DataGrid. Postback and acting on postback relies on Viewstate. So if it is readonly datagrid and if you are not going to use paging and sorting provided by datagrid, then you can disable viewstate. But if you want use above mentioned feature of DataGrid, then you can not disable ViewState in DataGrid. So to avoid excessive load on client machine because of viewstate . You can disable viewstate for each item in DataGrid. Disabling can be done in two ways, one way is disabling each itemtemplate columns viewstate to false.

I'm using ASP.NET 1.1 and would like to call store procedure with date type parameter
The problem is that datetime on the web server is not equal to datetime on Oracle server.
What I really want to do is to give par2 value of Oracle sysdate function and dont know how to do it.
Dim lc_date As Date = Now().ToShortDateString
Dim par2 As New OracleClient.OracleParameter("p_date", OracleClient.OracleType.DateTime)
par2.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
par2.Value = lc_date.ToString
sqlcom.Parameters.Add(par2)
Same problem appears when you updateting table record on Oracle with values from dataset. How to tell dataset to update some field on the sourse (oracle) with oracle built-in function let's say SYSDATE

my server side language is c#.net.

Either you don't want what you asked for, or you have some very unusal reason for wanting it.
If you open a new page in server side, it will be opened on the server, and it won't be available to the user.
If you don't want to open it in server side at all, but on the client side, you have to do that from the browser. You can use Javascript to do that:
window.open('PageToOpen.aspx', '_blank');
---
b { font-weight: normal; }

there are alot of axample for what i want to do.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
for example: in yahoo mail. have ever seen whenever you want to delete a mail, yahoo opens a new page for you to confirm deletion? doesn't it process in server side? of course yes. because your request is sent to server.
how can i implement it?
i know that javascript code but you suppose that i want to write some code in buttonclick event depending on my database, and for each condition i sould open a new page in new window not the old window. how can i do that?

Either I've got my function declared wrong or something because I cannot access it from App_Code.
How do you call into a pages function in App_Code?
I've got a web page "VendorSelection.aspx" and in it I have a public string function GetVendorSelection() I must not have it declared right as I cannot access it at all.
public string GetVendorSelection()
{
// I don't think declaring it static will help unless I can somehow make the DropDownList it uses static to...
// I'm not the most experienced ASP .Net programmer and this one has me stumped...
}
|
|

It looks like you're accessing your DropDownList within your GetVenderSelection() function, yes?
If that's the case, you probably wouldn't want to define the function in your App_Code folder. You'd probably just want to include it in the code-behind for your .aspx page.
I think of App_Code as a place to hold custom class definitions, like a simple Data tier class. I might for example define something like this in a .cs file that is stored in App_Code:
public Class DataProvider
{
public static DataSet GetVendors()
{
... code that returns a dataset of vendors from the database ...
}
} then call it from an .aspx page like this:
private void Page_Load()
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
myDropDownList.DataSource = DataProvider.GetVendors();
myDropDownList.DataBind();
}
} In your case, if your function is directly referencing the dropdownlist, it might make more sense to leave it in the .aspx page with the dropdownlist.

No maybe I didn't explain it clearly. I have a function in my page that I need to call from a class in the App_Code folder. The code below I need to call somehow from App_Code and the code below is in a code behind page...
namespace mountainbrook.UI
{
partial class VendorSelection : BaseApplicationPage
{
public VendorSelection()
{
AddSpecialEventHookUps();
this.Init += new System.EventHandler(My_Init);
}
private void My_Init(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
}
public string GetVendorSelection()
{
System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList VendorSelectionDropDownList = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList();
VendorSelectionDropDownList = this.Page.FindControl("VendorSelectionDropDownList") as System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList;
return VendorSelectionDropDownList.Text;
}
}
}
|
|
|

Okay - I think I see. You have a function in a class in App_Code that needs to be provided the current vendor selection then?
I think you'll probably want to construct your functions in App_Code to accept parameters when they need additional data. So if you've conceptualized your App_Code class like this:
public class SomeStuff
{
public static void DoSomethingWithTheVendor()
{
... get the currently selected vendor from the drop down list...
... do something with it...
}
} You'll probably want to redo it to accept a parameter, like this:
public class SomeStuff
{
public static void DoSomethingWithTheVendor(string vendorId)
{
... do something with the vendor, given the passed-in vendorId...
}
} Then, in your .aspx page when you call SomeStuff.DoSomethingWithTheVendor() , you would supply it with the selected value from the dropdown list - something like this:
void MyButton_ClickEventHandler(object o, EventArgs e)
{
string vendorId = myVendorDropDownList.SelectedValue();
SomeStuff.DoSomethingWithTheVendor(vendorId);
} Does that make sense?

Hello again! I'm having some troubles with a web page. i want it to refresh every n=5 seconds. so i thought of drag&drop-ing a timer in the UI. but there was no timer. so i had to create one from code.
<br />
using System.Timers;<br />
<br />
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page <br />
{<br />
Timer timer1 = new Timer();<br />
void ini() {<br />
this.timer1.Interval = 5000;<br />
timer1.AutoReset = true;<br />
timer1.Elapsed += new System.Timers.ElapsedEventHandler(this.timer1_elapsed);<br />
timer1.Start();<br />
}<br />
public void timer1_elapsed(object sender, EventArgs e){<br />
<br />
}<br />
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)<br />
{<br />
ini();<br />
}<br />
the problems seems to be that the elapsed event never occurs.
Please help me. if you know an easier way to refresh the web page and u'd share it to me, i'd be thankful.
Many thanks in advance!
