QuestionReferences to programmatically created controls Pin

I have not many clues of what to do... I'm using VS 2003 (VB.net)
I'm trying to create controls on the fly, creating them is just fine. But if I afterwards want to change one of them, how to make that possible?
This code is just a simple example:

Private Sub Beginner()
For i As Integer = 1 To 10
Dim p As New Panel

p.Name = "pnlThing" & i
p.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.Blue
p.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(10, 10)
p.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(10 * i, 10)

Me.Controls.Add(p)
Next i

End Sub

Is there a way to make a reference so I can use pnlThing1.*method*?

Regards,
Hmmkk
