My ISP keeps spamming me about things that have nothing to do with our agreed upon business arrangement.
Including, just now, a chance to win tickets to some Taylor Swift show.
There was an option to provide feedback, which I did. In essence, I told them I was giving them money in exchange for internet access, and to stick to the plot, please.
Clearly this isn't big brother checking what I do and search for and build up a profile of my interests and such. Otherwise they'd know Taylor Swift is just about the last thing they should ever contact me about.
Thing is, it's my ISP, so I can't just arbitrarily block every email coming from them.
I had no point to make. Carry on.

Seriously. No matter how popular she got, I actually take pride in the fact that I still couldn't name a single song of hers. I'm sure I've heard at least one, but it was never pointed out to me so I wouldn't know.
Commercial radio lost me as a customer decades ago.

I've been fortunate ever since I got fiber. The (regional) company I go through is great. The service is expensive compared to XFinity for the same downstream, but my upstream is the same as my downstream now and ping times would make the most hardened gamer weep.
I don't think they'd ever bother me with things like that. I pay them enough as it is, they don't need to make any more money off me. (The price isn't unreasonable for the service, just more than I'm used to)

Do they at least have an unsubscribe link that allows you to opt out of marketing/promotional emails but while still keeping billing emails?
Can also call them and ask. Most companies these days tend to prefer "screw 'em and ask forgiveness." For now at least, but a few will allow you to opt out after they spam you.

Not that I recall, but it's certainly worth seeing if they have any such options, perhaps, under my profile. And if not, I'll bring it up next time I have a reason to call them.

That's what got me annoyed enough to relay the story. 
Otherwise I would've just clicked Delete and carried on my merry way, as I do for every other spam I get.

My thought is that it boils down to economics. Your ISP is, for obvious reasons in the current economy, reluctant to raise the price of their core services. However, the cost of doing business is rising and they need to at least break even, even though their investors would prefer to see a profit. Letting advertisers to allow them to solicit their customers is an easy revenue stream, allowing them to hold the line on prices.

I just googled my ISP's reported yearly profits for the last couple of years. Not income, profits.

2021 - $1.55 B
2020 - $1.42 B
2019 - $2.04 B
2018 - $2.78 B
2017 - $2.00 B
2016 - $0.84 B
That's in billions of dollars, Canadian. The cost of business is going up, but so are their profits. Clearly they've had better years, but they've still been on an increase since 2021. I'm not too worried about them "breaking even".

OK everyone,
first of all, sorry for the flakey site for the last day or so.
We tried to change something on the SQL server, and doing so magically changed a configuration parameter which hobbled the server.
After much head-meets-desk debugging, we tracked it down.
I'll be monitoring, but I think its good now.

I'm still getting quite a bit of lag intermittently when it goes to load a page. Not so long it times out, but long enough that my fiber connected, spoiled self gets impatient.

As the title eludes, I am NOT asking programming question, I like an evaluation / opinion of the tool and or suggestion for alternative. ( My on the fly, uncalled for "update " of ...expletive deleted ... web browser locked-up after opening 26 (!) windows on boot, so I did not finish download of " Understand" )
