They're dropping the #1234 random tag on the end ... good that you get to keep your name part, many have to change it.

Well, the word "original" implies there are multiples, possibly copycat names.
With that said, is your new/changed name just a copy of the original one?

That's a win-win for me: I'm old and original!

That makes sense.
Yet, I wonder how you could tell. The representation is 100% identical down to the last bit for the two alternatives.

I must remember to introduce you Zathras, Zathras and Zathras down on Epsilon Three. But not Zathras, he's a real jerk.

I write some useful papers and put them into PDF file and plan to sell these papers if possible.
I need to add the password to protect them. What is the best software to add these protections such as passord?
do I have alternatives other than PDF format?

There are lots of resources for encrypting PDF files, both locally and online.
HOWEVER the encryption used is weak, and there are also lots of resources online for cracking encrypted PDFs.
If you are serious, you will need to find something stronger than PDF passwords.

Just to add to what the other two have said, it's probably a good idea to remember Robert A. Heinlein: Anything free is worth what you paid for it and Source not clear: If you're not paying for it; you are the product So I'd be careful when choosing anything to protect your IP.

Hypothetically, why would the owner of this service not copy and store all the PDFs you want to encrypt?
If I offered random encrypted PDFs in bulk batches on the DarkWeb for sale, I'm sure it would fetch a couple of bucks. 20? 30 per batch of 1.000?
If I scanned and labeled these properly, I might even be able to sell some of them for 10 bucks a piece.
That would pay for the ad-sense and basic website design in no time, making it a nice passive revenue stream on the side of a larger and probable even more illicit business venture.
Because of this hypothetical, I never use free online services, and I advice everyone with common sense not to use them either.

That makes sense, I would not use this service for sensitive information.

That's how I feel about sites which provide "secure image sharing". Were I running such a site, I would definitely be interested in seeing those images myself.

An easier option may be to zip your files (which will make them smaller as an added benefit) and put a password on the zip.
