4 day soak test running. Mother ****ers updated my system. But it's okay, because I play MS' game - I made sure to run Windows update - current on H2. But what the hell, let's push out some crap update, reboot professional licensed machines, etc.
Imagine if a coworker came in and arbitrarily rebooted the server. Or your machine. I'd bitch slap them into next week.
There is a special place in hell for these assholes. Sorry for bringing religion into it . I'll settle for napalm on the campus.
What elephanting useless turds.

Open the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)
Go to Local Computer Policy/Administrative Settings/Windows Components and select Windows Update in the left panel.
Here you will be able to adjust all settings for how Windows Update behaves.
For every new version if Windows there will appear a few new settings that will destroy my personal preferences.
But the "Kill all" should be under "Configure Automatic Updates"
|
|
|
|
|
You know that you can configure windows Update to do exactly what you want, ranging from automatic download, install and reboot, to nothing at all?
If you want to be angry, be angry at the person who didn't configure update behavior on their machine / network.

Ok, I'm still pissed. So, I'm not going to go full retard on you.
I HAD these things locked down but the worthless trash at Microsoft likes to reset the settings. They are an elephanting $%$%^$^% virus.
I don't know you bruno, but if you came into my lab and rebooted my machines, we'd be in the parking lot. You have got to be elaphanting kidding me coming up with workarounds for this crap. It is professionally pathetic. If you worked for me and did this stuff, I'd walk your butt to the door. Don't come back, we'll ship you your desk contents.
Seriously - why are we defending this $%%$%^ Yeah, I'm still pissed off and angry. Let me come over, take your wallet and burn a week of your time. Then we'll talk.

Well I am currently working in an admin role, and I manage a large server farm with multiple domains, 100+ servers hosting the software responsible for the production of several billion dollars worth of product per year. We manage our Windows updates via WSUS downstream servers and group policy.
In all those years, those settings have never been 'randomly reset'. And to the best of my knowledge, no other sites have had group policies randomly reset.
I am not advocating 'workarounds for this crap' I was suggesting that perhaps those settings were not locked down they way you thought they were.
That's why Group Policy is always a better solution in cases like this because regardless of updates or defaults, GPO always overrides localized configuration. No matter how defaults may change during installation, your GPOs will ensure that your settings are what you think they are, and are the same on all systems.

well good job, you do you. I'm not in an IT/professional environment - I just want to use my damn computer. If you are managing billions you have clout - maybe.
Any business depending on Microsoft needs a sanity check. Seriously, they have created careers and training systems on their f'd up systems.

Good, hope it takes him down to a whimpering snot!

Meta made about $30bn last year.
$1.6bn is nothing to them.
|
|
|
|

Oh it is ... lose this one and it creates a precedent encouraging every other group that feels oppressed or maligned by content on Meta to start a similar lawsuit.
And while $1.6bn may only be 5% of profits for the year, it only takes 19 other groups to win the same and they are well into the red after legal fees (which will probably be the same size as the out-of-court settlement they offer to shut everybody up).

What about creating such a group with me, Griff ? I could use $0.8bn.

I'm seriously tempted, but since I don't use Farcebook I can't point a lawyer at anything and say "that really upset me and I need money to salve the mental wounds".
Sadly.
