Just waiting for the elastic (well neoprene) to arrive for the mounting bands and they will be in service tomorrow.

The fawn / brown material on the headband and under them is pig-skin suede (tougher and longer lasting than traditional lamb-skin) as it should be comfortable and "slide resistant".

Next time, I'd use 0.5mm clear PETG as this is a bit too resistant to bending (the original bottom edging broke under the strain. Oh, and I'd have more than 1.5g or rubberised super glue in the house as well ... sticking the suede down used a lot of glue!

Once this is over, I'll use Herself's screen instead of safety glasses - it shoudln't get so hot, sweaty, and steamed up.

I just built my fourth one - using 0.5 screen this time - and did a cost analysis: £6.39 each, which is pretty reasonable. I'm pretty sure the health service isn't getting them that cheap, and there are serious economies of scale you can use with these things:

The "Comfort band" is free because I have half a hide left from a previous job and haven't touched it for five years or more. No idea what it's worth, I bought it with a job lot of leather when I wanted to reupholster my office chair.

it doesn't matter, it is most probably cheaper than current prices by abusers.

In Spain there are not many people doing this because the 3d printers are not that extended yet. But doing a lot of things in a more traditional way, i.e. the ones I told you, textile nose-mouth masks and similar things for the people working in the hospitals.

So far, private people are getting done almost more than the government. What is to be proud of the people and a :big_facepalm: for the government.

I've abandoned ABS for the moment - it was just rat's-nesting every time I tried to use it, and I was getting frustrated after the ease with which I got PLA going.
But PETG is supposed to be higher temp than PLA, more flexible, and easier to work with than ABS.

I had some problems switching - you could still see bits of ABS in the material for ages - and I had adhesion problems with the bed, but some fine tuning has sorted that, I hope.

And it's printing it's first "real world" object:

As you can see, it's stringy stuff, but that cuts and sands off pretty nicely. I tried a blowtorch, but you have to be really careful - it's glass temperature is pretty lowish and it softens quickly.

Can you guess what it is yet?
